Originally grown in France, it was imported in Friuli from the Bordeaux region more than 100 years ago, becoming the most popular red grape in the area: nowadays it gives more than 60% of the red wine produced in the Colli Orientali area.
Merlot Valchiarò is well-defined, with a ruby red colour and typical wild berry flavours with notes of vanilla and marasca cherry.
With ageing it highlights its mild tannic background.
